Beat all, end all

I have read a lot of these and I am pretty sure I at one time had one of the worst roommates ever. I won’t say how I met this roommate for privacy reasons but he was suggested to me by a couple of folks. It came at a time where I was in a pinch as I was given seven days notice at house I had been renting at for a year. There the guy just could not afford his mortgage anymore (he lived there too). I had no lease so no recourse.

Anyway, I hung out with guy a few times and he seemed all right. Kind of hyper in some ways and talked sort of like he was always trying to sell you something?

So we look at this apartment and it is a great place, big and close to work for me. He claims he just got a job pimping out cell phones for one of the larger wireless service providers in the U.S.

So everyone is happy. Right? Fill out the applications and I pay those fees in cash as I did not have a bank account at the time. Everything gets approved and we move in.

Things get strange almost immediately. His first day at work was the first Monday after we move in. Despite having a job I cannot but notice that after three days it has not seemed that he has gone to work, so I ask him about it. he claims the job sucked and he could not work there. Odd, as I am not sure he ever went to the job … even once.

So then on several occasions I come home from work and he is crashed on the couch as usual and I try and be social, new roommate and all that I do not know well, so I sit and watch TV. The very first night I do this a update pops up and says something to the effect of “Long Dong Silver 7″ or some shit “starts in 15 minutes, do you still want to order.

Wow. I go “really dude, ordering porn huh?” He flatly denies it and hits no. I go “well i sure as hell did not order ‘Long Dong Silver 7″ from work.” It gets more hilarious when about 2 hours later … again … up on the screen pops up ‘Cheerleader Camp 8′ or something starts in 15 minutes do you still want to order? Then I was kind of pissed and asked him if he was going to be jacking up our cable bill (in his name) with a bunch of porn? He denies he ordered it again. I am thinking yeah right.

So this happens a couple nights that week until finally one night after the message pops up he goes I am going to watch TV in my room. Literally stands up, unplugs the TV, picks it up and carries it into his room and closes the door. I honestly just sat there scratching my head. Did that really just happen?!

So I have my own TV and own room so I set it up phat as I had been procrastinating since I was usually either at work or sleeping. Never really watched TV out in the living room again.

So weeks go by and it becomes obvious that the roommate is not going to get a job and just sleeps on the couch watching TV all and every day.

When not doing that he would do what I like to call the human explosion as I would come home and clothes would be everywhere, dishes in the sink, stuff like cereal all over the kitchen floor and even the living room floor. I would clean that up every day especially if he was not home. I would gather up all his clothes, open his bedroom door and just throw them in. This is when I noticed that his room consisted of nothing but an uncovered mattress on the floor, prescription drug bottles, clothes on floor and oh yeah … a bottle of Jergens. Yeaaah.

Then after about a month, me being the only one who had a computer I would often come home to him acting suspicious in the living room and I would go to my room, turn on my computer to find various videos downloading with such titles that let’s just say are beyond being legal.

First time it happened I totally freaked out … but it happened again about two or three more times and I had to explain such things as my IP address, prison, me most likely getting ass raped if I ended up in prison, etc.

As far as I could tell at least that stopped. So a few months went by and the original arrangement was I would give him money for my part of rent and he would write a single check to our landlord. Well after two months of suspiscious behavior I stopped giving him cash and for a month a gave him a money order filled out to his mother (whom he said was the one paying his rent since he had no job).

We were only three months in and I could see this whole decision had become a complete disaster.

Then I started coming home to random people outside my door looking for him. he would not be home, I would come inside and often in the middle of winter every window would be open, shit thrown all over the place … and nobody home.

WTF?

Then one day it dawns on me I have not received an electric bill in over two months (in my name) so I called the utility company and they tell me not only have they sent bills, but that the security deposit I gave my roommate to deliver in person was never receieved.

At this point more red flags were going up then those of the countries outside of the United Nations.

There were other odd things … like the weird habit of when he would actually go somewhere of coming home coming in the front door and going directly to barging into my room. I would be dead asleep, no knocking no nothing. It was down right creepy. I repeatedly yelled at him but he told me it was because the computer, my computer, was in MY room …. huh?

I had no lock on my door, but after several incidents involving BBQ sauce and several hundred pound well placed blockades on my door (one where he slammed face first into my door and went directly down on his ass in the hallway) this finally stopped.

Then the the fourth month’s rent I gave my money order for my part of rent directly to the rent offices drop box. I tell the roommate and he freaks out … and then threatens to MOVE OUT because he says I do not trust him, uh yeah … you think? Fuckin freak.

Well the best part comes when four days later I receive a text message from him as I am getting off the bus after work that states “sorry I got us evicted”.

SAY WHAT?!

F’ the text message, I call him as I am only four blocks from home and ask what the hell he is talking about. he goes on to explain that he has not paid rent the entire time he has lived there. i ask him how is that possible, and asked about the money I gave him. He tells me “sorry, but I spent that too.”

I was so pissed I just hung up and marched home. By the time I walked the two blocks he honestly grabbed the griddle he had bought and nothing else and was gone.

I called my landlords immediately and asked them what the hell was going on. They informed me besides the last money order I dropped off they had not received a single penny from us in rent, not even the application fees. Oh but it gets better!

They had been posting eviction notices for over a month, my roommate not working had been taking them down and throwing them out before I ever saw them. Turns out he had been doing the same thing with the electric bill and that was now nearly $200 delinquent as well.

The seal on the deal? Well he had even gone to court to “represent” us in the eviction, got a one week extension (I am guessing in hopes of getting my rent money for the next month for him to spend) and it being 5 PM I had until 9 AM the next morning to be out of the apartment, all belongings removed or be locked out and have everything I own hauled off and dumped.

No joke. By the kindless and good fortune of an open room I had just heard of and a good friend who was able to get a trailer on zero notice I was actually able to move out four hours later.

Turns out the kid was a huge coke head and had spent $1000 of my money on drugs and whatever food, etc he need to survive and never paid a penny of rent himself.

I sued him but it took me two years before I hired what equated to a head hunter to get my money from two of his brothers that own a business in town. Despite that, to this day I still pay the collection debt for that rent in installments to the rental company.

So when it comes to bad roommate stories? I think I got most of you beat.
